Choosing a calibration management software application requires careful investigation. Here’s a checklist of criteria to keep in mind.

1. Does the calibration management software automate your calibrators?
2. Does it automate your devices under test?
3. Are calibration procedures available or can you create them easily?
4. Does the manufacturer offer training?
5. Does the manufacturer offer support? What kinds of support?
   
   1. Telephone
   2. Knowledge base
   3. User groups
   4. Bulletin boards/user forums
6. Does the manufacturer introduce regular updates and upgrades?
7. Is the software easy to use?
8. Does the software have benefits that you find useful?
   
   1. Productivity enhancement
   2. Better consistency
9. Does it work for your laboratory environment? (single computer or network)
10. Does it help you meet quality standards?
11. Can you produce reports?
12. Can you customize and configure reports? For example, can you add your company logo and use your corporate fonts without a lot of struggle?

    Bonus check:

13. Can you try the calibration management software before you buy it? Some corporations offer a free trial that lets you “kick the tires” before committing to a purchase.
