molbox/molbloc Mass Flow Calibration Solution Demo Video
Transcript
Hi, this is Jeff Grossman of Fluke Calibration. I am the Product Specialist for our pressure and mass flow calibration products and solutions. Today I’m showing you the molbox/molbloc Mass Flow Calibration Standards Solution that we’ve been offering since 1995 as an ideal way to calibrate a variety of flow instruments that you might find in your lab: rotameters, mass flow controllers, mass flow meters, sonic elements, and laminar flow elements.
The system is used to calibrate instruments up to 100 slm using our laminar molblocs. And we have a higher flow sonic molblocs that can take you as high as 5000 liters per minute. The molbox is the flow computer, the molbloc is the flow element, which goes in series with a device that we’re calibrating. In this case the rotameter is 5 standard liters per minute. We’ve got it set up with an appropriately ranged molbloc, and my colleague Jim Grimes will demonstrate how we take a point, using our COMPASS for Flow Calibration Software. Jim?
Hello. This is a rotameter that exits to the atmosphere. There are plenty of rotameters that have different pressure and flow conditions. Now the way we set one of these up: first of all, we level it in all 3 directions and then we make sure it’s properly connected with no leaks. Then we start COMPASS, we start COMPASS up and interact with 2 molboxes and the bloc, I have a bloc here that I use to measure the temperature of the gas flowing through here. Typically there’s no temperature issues as far as pressure drops. The temperature can be measured…this is the temperature bloc actually, right adjacent to the rotameter. Commonly some people would measure the temperature here. And I also have my pressure measurement in here.
A rotameter always measures pressure at the exit as we’re trying to determine the conditions inside the rotameter. So once I start COMPASS up, I will adjust my flow using the regulator or needle valve and I will adjust the number on the rotameter to get a reading. And since I’ve got my reference and my pressure and temperature all connected I will take a reading on the COMPASS setup. All I have to do is basically hit the Start button, make sure my ball’s level. Many rotameters, you have to measure the ball the manufacturer states which is typically in the center of the float. And, once we get it all set up on the proper number here, we make sure the flow is stable and then we take a reading by hitting the Start button. Make sure the reading is steady, flow is reading continuously steady, stop the test, stop the measurement. Type in the value here and then the reported error comes up in COMPASS.
Hi, here we are having another molbox molbloc gas flow calibration application. In this case we’re using a higher flow molbloc-S, our sonic molbloc, and we’re calibrating a bank of other sonic flow elements for a customer. We can go as high as 5000 standard liters per minute. In this case, it’s really cool, is also that our COMPASS for Flow Software is not only reporting the value of the mobox/molbloc calculated flow, it’s also taking data on the sonic flow element that we’re calibrating. And we’re using that data to calculate coefficients that the customer will supply, or apply to the sonic nozzle when they’re using it in the field.
